Sonlight

Wow it has been too long since I have blogged. I know this because I usually read others blogs around the same time I blog myself. And I have 61 blog entries to catch up on. Probably wont get that done tonight! I just wanted to share the joy in my life of homeschooling. I was given a lot of homeschooling material by a sweet lady in Monterey. Most of it was Sonlight curriculum. We are anticipating a departure for France sometime in the fall. And since I wanted to try out homeschooling while still here in the USA with resources for help, I decided to give it a try now. Yes... actually now. I am going to give Drew and Joe a week off after they are through with school, and then we are getting started on Kindergarden and 3rd grade. The cool thing about homeschooling is you can make your own schedule. Then if we want to take a week off for VBS or vacation, we can do that too. I did ask the boys if they even wanted me to teach them and if they wanted to do school this summer, and they both said YES! I will also be attempting to teach some preschool to Harley. (Pray for us there!) Anyway... I'm excited to give it a try and will let you know how it goes.

Now I know how Christine felt when Laurisa got a cell phone! Oh wait... I joined Gourmet Group, so that makes us even I guess.
All kidding aside, I know you will make a GREAT teacher. You are so loving, kind, and patient. Yay Heidi!!!

And how did I feel, Gina? Left out? Abandoned? Betrayed? Tell me how I felt. ha ha ha!!!!

Yay for you, Heidi!!!! Call me if you have questions or need encouragement (which you will need). It also helps to be in a homeschool group (different than a charter) so you don't feel isolated. I am so happy for you!

Heidi,
Welcome to the adventure called 'Homeschooling'! My wife is the primary educator in our family but I do teach science. I think you will enjoy Sonlight's curriculum. We have found it to be very easy to use and it literary approach is wonderful. But wishes and God bless.

Heidibelle,
I remember the excitement I felt the day I began to teach Jeff (and later you) in Cameroon. Most days were fun and enjoyable, being one-on-one with my own kids as we opened the books of learning together.
There WERE days, however, when I needed that support and encouragement that Christine talked about. Dad wasn't home; I couldn't call anyone on a phone since we didn’t have one, and of course no family was nearby, but the Lord gave me courage to go on.
As your Dad and I have seen you and Jeff demonstrate in your parenting skills, you will be a patient, loving, and devoted guide and teacher to your children. They are fortunate to have you!
With much love and our prayers as you begin on this new journey, Mom
